GAI: Nevada inappropriately claims millions

Healthcare Auditing Weekly, January 16, 2007

The Nevada Division of Health Care Financing and Policy inappropriately claimed nearly $6 million for Medicaid school-based administrative expenditures in 2003 and 2004, according to a recent OIG audit.

The OIG also reports that the state agency allowed confidential Medicaid beneficiary health data to be released to its consultant, Maximus, Inc., without written assurance that the information would be adequately safeguarded.

The OIG recommends that the state agency reimburse the government for its inappropriate claims, review other claims for adminstrative expenditures filed after the audited period, and ensure that confidential health data will be securely safeguarded in the future.

The state agency agrees with the OIG's findings.
