Follow these steps for effective compliance training
Healthcare Auditing Weekly, November 21, 2006
The training style you choose for your facility should depend on the type of staff your facility employs.
The best training style, or modality, depends a lot on the audience that will participate in the training. Methods that compliance officers often find successful include:
From a content absorption standpoint, in-person training may be the most effective method of training available. A live instructor can mold the overall training session to the audience, and is often the best way to make sure your employees are paying attention.
However, online training programs usually track learner performance and participation in training. It can also offer the learner the opportunity to submit a question by e-mail and get an in-person or e-mail response.
Video training has many advantages. While it brings a "live" instructor into the room, it allows learners to complete training on their own time. It does not have the advantages of online learning for automated participation/performance training, or provide the ability to ask questions.
Finally, when you develop your training program, keep your other "customer" in mind - the government regulators and enforcement community. Make sure you cover the topics they expect to see in a good training program.
