Grand jurors will soon hear testimony on whether Dorsey Miller, former chairman of the North Broward Hospital District in Florida, steered business to his clients, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Gov. Jeb Bush appointed Miller to the district in 2000. He served as chairman from October 2002 to October 2003.

Two years after his appointment, a commission committee Miller chaired recommended that American Medical Depot, a medical supplies firm, receive a $4 million no-bid contract with the district. It was later learned that Miller was a consultant to the company, paid to drum up business for the firm, the article states.

The district runs four public hospitals and two dozen health clinics. The district also taxes property owners in northern Broward to pay for healthcare for residents who are uninsured.
