Federal and Florida authorities are investigating Sarasota Memorial Hospital on claims that a patient died while in restraints at the hospital, and the facility failed to report the incident promptly, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports.
The investigation stems from the August 3 death of a 69-year-old man who was admitted for an ulcerated right foot and severe pain six days earlier.
The hospital did not report that the patient died while in restraints for more than one month after the incident occurred. The incident came to light after someone reported it to JCAHO.
