Arkansas failed to report $3.7 million worth of Medicaid overpayments collected by contractors, according to a recent OIG report.
The OIG initiated the audit to see if the state reported the overpayments collected by contractors in accordance with federal regulations between Oct. 1, 2000 and April 20, 2005.
The OIG also found that Arkansas' Department of Health and Human Services failed to report an additional $6.6 million in overpayments in a timely manner and neglected to report the federal share of any interest earned on the funds held in its cash holding account.
The office asked the state agency to include the $3.7 million in unreported payments on the CMS-64 form and refund the government its $2.7 million share of the amount.
