Follow these universal steps when planning any audit

Before jumping in and beginning an audit, be sure that you understand the steps that are involved. Auditing methods are primarily described as data-collection techniques, because continuous monitoring and auditing are generally designed to provide information about the status of compliance. The following are common steps for most audits:

1. Identify the focus of the audit

The audit process may be suitable for investigating a focused issue regarding any size or type of covered entity with which the issue is of special concern. No matter what the issue, make sure that you focus your audit to the questions and tasks associated with it.
