Follow these steps for auditing clinical trials

If your facility conducts clinical trials, you have a duty as an auditor or compliance officer to ensure that these trials are compliant.
Too often, otherwise vigilant hospital compliance staff hide their heads in the sand when it comes to reviewing clinical trials.
However, ignoring clinical trials only creates a high-risk situation for your facility, according to Lisa Murtha, JD, CHC, managing director of Huron Consulting Group in New York City.
"Clinical trails compliance seems overwhelming, and it is," Murtha says. "It's overwhelming, and it's very complicated. I think a lot of people just hope for the best."
Breaking down audits of clinical trials into manageable steps can get you through the process. This month we will discuss how to attack the billing component of clinical trials.
