Ortquist to head Tenet corporate compliance
Tenet Healthcare, Corp. has named Steven W. Ortquist as the company's new senior vice president, ethics and compliance/chief compliance officer, reported Business Wire, Inc.
Ortquist, currently the vice president, ethics and compliance/chief compliance officer for the Phoenix-based Banner Health system, will begin work at Tenet Aug. 1.
The appointment comes as Tenet faces several lawsuits related to physician kickbacks, improper billing, and unnecessary cardiac surgery, reported the Dallas Business Journal. At Banner, Ortquist developed and launched a compliance program for the 28,000-employee system, according to Business Wire, Inc.
Still, Tenet has taken several steps toward improving compliance in the past two years, including revamping compliance procedures; naming a chief compliance officer separate from the general counsel; installing a hospital-based compliance officer in every facility; and creating a "system-based" auditing, tracking and monitoring process to ensure compliance, according to Business Wire, Inc.
