Out-of-control physicians create risk for your hospital

They're abusive, short of temper, and degrading to employees. They may have impeccable qualifications and tremendous skill, but disruptive physicians are also a liability to your hospital.

Compliance officers and auditors should be aware of the problems caused by disruptive physicians and take steps to address them.

Taking on a disruptive physician can be a challenge because these physicians are often well-connected and earn high wages, according to Michael M. Mustokoff, Esq., a partner at Duane Morris in Philadelphia.

Mustokoff discussed the compliance risks associated with disruptive physicians during the Health Care Compliance Association's 2005 Compliance Institute in New Orleans in April.
