OIG semiannual report shows savings in billions

The OIG on June 13 announced the publication of its semiannual report, claiming savings and expected net recoveries of nearly $17 billion for the first half of fiscal year 2005.
The OIG also announced the following highlights in its report:
- $15.6 billion in implemented recommendations and other actions to put funds to better use
- $266 million in audit receivables
- $1.1 billion in investigative receivables
- 1,695 exclusions of individuals and entities for fraud or abuse of federal healthcare programs
- 258 criminal actions against individuals or entities that engaged in crimes against HHS programs
- 105 civil actions, including False Claims Act suits, unjust enrichment suits, civil monetary penalties law settlements, and administrative recoveries related to provider self-disclosure matters
