Audit vendors to keep feds away

If your organization outsources billing and coding to a vendor, don't assume that the vendor is responsible if the government investigates its business practices. The OIG will hold your facility primarily responsible, not the vendor.

That's why monitoring a vendor's work is a good idea, especially if your organization contracts its billing or coding work. In the end, double-checking could prevent the government from taking action against your facility.
