Claiming the Medicare program owes them $226.3 million, 13 Louisiana hospitals joined dozens of others in Alabama and Mississippi in a lawsuit filed July 7 against the federal government.
According to a July 8 story in the The Advocate, Baton Rouge's (LA) daily newspaper, 97 hospitals are taking part in the lawsuit filed in Washington, D.C., against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Organized by the Alabama Hospital Association, the suit targets changes HHS made in 2002 to the formulas used in determining how much healthcare providers are reimbursed for treating Medicare patients.
