CMS is set to launch a pilot program that will result in metrics to measure compliance effectiveness, announced CMS' Kimberly Brandt, acting director of program integrity in the office of financial management, in late April. And your hospital can get involved.
The compliance effectiveness pilot project seeks to help CMS better assess those factors that make a compliance program successful, as well as to develop incentives to help providers follow through on compliance objectives.
The project will run over 18 months, and will focus on acute-care hospitals and academic medical centers with more than 100 beds-facilities that already have compliance programs in place.
CMS will develop key indicators to measure each hospital's effectiveness, Brandt said. The program will require site visits, one at the beginning and one at the end.
The hospitals will be located in CMS' regions I, II, and II, spanning 13 eastern states (MD, VA, WV, PA, CT, RI, NH, MA, NY, NJ, DE, VT, and ME). Inpatient revenues must account for at least 30% of total revenue; Medicare billings must account for at least 25% of total revenue.
"We're going to take best practices and pull them together," Brandt said. "We'll have the guidance about two years from now."
If you fit the above criteria, you can volunteer your hospital by June 25 to be part of the project. The pilot will begin about two months later in late August.
