Keep an open mind when auditing
Healthcare Auditing Weekly, March 9, 2004
Even though you have knowledge of the billing or documentation practice of an individual or department being audited, let the story unfold before you come to conclusions and set a plan. It's your job to make sure documentation is complete and accurate in comparison to Medicare's or Medicaid's standards and expectations, and having an open mind prevents any bias or emotional reaction you might have when you or someone else discovers egregious examples of poor billing or documentation practices.
