An optometrist agreed to repay the Massachusetts Medicaid program $50,000 for overpayments he caused by submitting improper claims for optometry services rendered to elderly nursing home residents, Attorney General Tom Reilly announced January 7.
Dr. Frederick Wagner, who runs a nursing home optometry practice in Melrose, agreed to repay the state Medicaid program for billing for more expensive, complex eye examinations when he actually performed routine and less costly procedures.
"No one is entitled to cheat the system on the backs of taxpayers," Reilly said in a press release. "My office will remain focused on protecting the state Medicaid program so that it is there for those in need of it most."
