Tenet Healthcare, of Santa Barbara, CA, said it received copies of subpoenas for documents relating to financial arrangements between two doctors and three Tenet hospitals in El Paso, TX, the Associated Press reported January 23.
The nation's second-largest hospital operator said the subpoenas for physicians' documents were issued by the Office of the Inspector General.
Tenet also expects a request for company documents in connection with the probe, and said it plans to cooperate with federal authorities, the report said.
Tenet has been the subject of several government investigations since announcing in late 2002 that much of its profit was generated by special Medicare payments triggered by its aggressive pricing policies.
