Since we are adding C codes back as of January 1, 2004, we were wondering if CMS will have systems prepared for those? What if we start using them and drop the bill, and CMS is not ready and rejects them

Since the device C codes are not required and since they do not generate any additional or separate APC payment, I'd suggest that providers give it a couple weeks before they start reporting them. This way, you won't face line item denials if your FI is not ready with the latest version of the OCE. Due to the recent passage of the Medicare Prescription Drug Bill, it is possible that CMS might be a little delayed in releasing the OCE/pricer tables to the FIs.
