A Philadelphia hospital network agreed to pay nearly $2 million on May 28 to settle allegations that it filed Medicare claims that were unsupported by proper documentation, according to Patrick Meehan, U.S. attorney for the Eastern district of Pennsylvania.
The allegations stemmed from an Office of Inspector General (OIG) audit of Albert Einstein Healthcare Network's Medicare part B claims filed from 1995 to 1996. The government also accused the hospital of upcoding some of the claims. As part of the audit, the government scrutinized 100 patient claims, and projected its results over the whole patient population for that time period.
In settling, the hospital network admits no wrongdoing.
