CMS corrects technical errors that occurred in the 2012 IPPS final rule
On February 1, CMS corrected technical errors that occurred in Tables 2, 4C, and 9A of the fiscal year 2012 inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) final rule. The tables are only available online and can be found at the following url: http://www.cms.hhs.gov/AcuteInpatientPPS/01_overview.asp.
CMS publishes proposed rule that revises Medicaid reimbursement for outpatient drugs
On February 2, CMS published a proposed rule that would revise requirements pertaining to Medicaid reimbursement for covered outpatient drugs to implement provisions of the Affordable Care Act. This proposed rule would also revise other requirements related to covered outpatient drugs, including key aspects of Medicaid coverage, payment, and the drug rebate program.
CMS requests comments regarding the applicability of EMTALA to hospitals with specialized capabilities
On February 2, CMS asked providers to submit comments regarding the applicability of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act of 1986 (EMTALA) to hospitals with specialized capabilities. CMS is exploring whether EMTALA should apply in situations where a hospital seeks to transfer an individual, who was admitted to the hospital’s dedicated emergency department with an emergency medical condition, to a hospital with specialized capabilities that are required to stabilize the patient.
