CMS publishes changes to the 2012 OPPS final rule
On January 4, 2012 CMS issued several corrections to the 2012 outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS) final rule including changes to sections about payments for ambulatory surgical centers and value based-purchasing.

CMS solicits comments for proposed EMTALA changes
On December 23, CMS announced that it plans to revise two policies related to the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). CMS wants feedback about the need to revisit the policies articulated in the September 9, 2003 Federal Register (68 FR 53243) and the August 19, 2008 Federal Register (73 FR 48656) concerning the applicability of EMTALA to hospital inpatients and the responsibilities of hospitals with specialized capabilities, respectively.
