CMS makes quarterly OPPS updates
CMS has issued its regular updates to the OPPS for July. The update includes information on new codes, guidance on reporting of units for drugs, clarification of the three-day payment window as applied to inpatient-only procedures, and more.
Effective date: July 1, 2011
Implementation date: July 5, 2011

CMS makes preventive services manual updates
On May 27, CMS issued a transmittal to make updates to the Claims Processing Manual regarding preventive services. CMS is adding a preventive services code and cost-sharing table to the manual.
Effective date: January 1, 2011
Implementation date: June 28, 2011
CMS issues special article on PTA with stenting of carotid arteries
CMS has posted a special edition MLN Matters article on percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) with carotid artery stenting. The article does not change policy but clarifies coverage of this procedure.
