In an effort to provide quality health care to beneficiaries enrolled in Original Medicare (Medicare Parts A and B), while at the same time encouraging providers to control costs, Medicare is implementing a new mode of cooperative health care delivery, beginning January 1, 2012. This new mode of delivery is referred to as an Accountable Care Organization (ACO), and was included as part of the health care reform legislation (the “Affordable Care Act” or “ACA”) enacted in March, 2010.
