CMS posts value-based purchasing final rule
CMS has posted a display copy of a final rule to implement a value-based purchasing program under which value-based incentive payments will be made in a fiscal year to hospitals that meet performance standards. The final rule goes beyond rewarding hospitals for reporting quality data and instead provides an incentive for higher quality performance.

CMS posts IPF PPS proposed rule
CMS has posted a display copy of a proposed rule to update the inpatient psychiatric facility prospective payment system (IPF PPS) for rate year 2012.

CMS issues IRF PPS proposed rule
On April 29, CMS published in the Federal Register a proposed rule regarding the inpatient rehabilitation facility prospective payment system (IRF PPS). In addition to making changes to the IRF PPS for fiscal year 2012, the rule would consolidate, clarify, and revise existing policies regarding IRFs; CMS is also proposing to amend existing regulatory provisions regarding new facilities and make changes in the bed size and square footage of IRFs and inpatient psychiatric facilities (IPFs) to improve clarity and remove obsolete material.
