The Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the Department of Health & Human Services launched the first-ever list of individuals sought by authorities on charges of healthcare fraud and abuse, in an effort to focus public attention on its most-wanted fugitives, according to an OIG press release.
The Most Wanted Fugitives List includes photos and profiles of 10 featured fugitives. The site features a prominent red button that says “report a fugitive.” Clicking on the button redirects the visitor to an online fugitive tip form and the OIG hotline number (888/476-4453) where people can report fugitive-related information in either English or Spanish, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The web page also indicates when a fugitive’s status changes, including when he or she is captured. At presstime, two of the fugitives listed on the site, Steven Moss, MD, and Reynel Betancourt, have been captured.
