As you are probably aware, CMS issued a display copy of the CY 2011 OPPS final rule on November 2. CMS plans to publish the official version of the final rule in the November 24 issue of the Federal Register, which hospitals are encouraged to review, in depth, at the earliest opportunity. In her note last week, Debbie Mackaman addressed CY 2011 refinements to the “incident to” a physician’s services requirements for hospital therapeutic services. This week, we will focus on some interesting CY 2011 changes to the billing rules for certain services which the CPT Manual refers to as “included services” when provided during a period of “critical care.”
