CMS accepts new revenue codes
On October 15, CMS issued a one-time notification to implement new revenue codes created by the National Uniform Billing Committee. Revenue codes 0860 (Magnetoencephalography (MEG) - General Classification) and 0861 (MEG) will now be accepted by the fiscal intermediary shared system (FISS).
Effective date: April 1, 2010
Implementation date: January 19, 2011
CMS issues EHR incentive program instructions to CAHs, Maryland waiver hospitals
On October 15, CMS issued a transmittal to direct Maryland waiver hospitals and CAHs to submit informational only Part C claims to Medicare, effective for discharge dates on or after October 1, 2010. This will allow CMS to collect Part C days for purposes of calculating EHR incentive payments.
Effective date: October 1, 2010
Implementation date: January 3, 2011
CMS posts updates to Part B ASP drug pricing files
On October 15, CMS issued a transmittal to implement the January 2011 quarterly average sales price (ASP) Medicare Part B drug pricing files and make revisions to prior quarterly pricing files.

CMS updates clotting factor furnishing fee
On October 15, CMS issued a transmittal to implement the annual update to the clotting factor furnishing fee. For 2011, the clotting factor furnishing fee of $0.176 per unit is included in the published payment limit for clotting factors and shall be added to the payment for a clotting factor when no payment limit for the clotting factor is published either on the ASP or NOC drug pricing files.

On October 15, CMS issued a transmittal to instruct contractors regarding 5010 implementation.

CMS posts coverage information for HSCT for myelodysplastic syndrome
On October 8, CMS issued transmittals to implement coverage for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for myelodysplastic syndrome only if provided in the context of a Medicare-approved clinical study meeting specific criteria under the coverage with evidence development paradigm.
Effective date: August 4, 2010
