OIG releases Work Plan for fiscal year 2011
On October 4, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released the Office of Inspector General (OIG) Work Plan for Fiscal Year 2011. The Work Plan provides brief descriptions of activities that the OIG plans to initiate or continue with respect to the HHS programs and operations of the in fiscal year 2011.
CMS announces 2010 SHIP funding awards
On October 1, CMS announced $1.5 million in fiscal year 2010 federal performance funding awards for its State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIP). The funds are in addition to the $41.6 million released to the SHIP network in April 2010. The SHIP network consists of 54 integral CMS partner organizations that provide benefits counseling and assistance to people with Medicare.
Government grants $9M to SMP programs to fight Medicare fraud
On October 1, CMS announced the award of $9 million in grants to help more than 50 Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) programs fight Medicare fraud. This award is part of President Obama’s mandate to educate seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries about preventing Medicare fraud.
CMS post quarterly OPPS data updates
CMS has posted its quarterly update to Addendum A and Addendum B of the OPPS.

CMS issues quarterly MUE files
CMS posted updated quarterly files containing the publishable medically unlikely edit (MUE) values.
