CMS updates HCPCS codes subject to SNF consolidated billing
On September 10, CMS issued a transmittal to implement the annual HCPCS update under the skilled nursing facility (SNF) consolidated billing policy.
Effective date: January 1, 2011
Implementation date: January 3, 2011

CMS to expand CAH edits
On September 10, CMS issued a transmittal to expand editing of critical access hospital (CAH) claims to verify the attending, operating, or other physician or non-physician practitioner provider on a CAH claim is eligible and enrolled in Medicare by allowing FISS to match data on a provider billed claim to that of a national PECOS file.
Effective date: January 1, 2011 (Phase 1); April 1, 2011 (Phase 2)
Implementation date: January 3, 2011 (Phase 1); April 4, 2011 (Phase 2)
CMS updates healthcare provider taxonomy codes
On September 10, CMS posted the October update to the healthcare provider taxonomy code lists.
Effective date: January 1, 2011
Implementation date: January 3, 2011
