CMS updates I/OCE
CMS posted an update to the integrated outpatient code editor (I/OCE), effective October 1.

CMS issues NCCI letter to Medicaid directors
On September 1, CMS posted a letter to state Medicaid directors to provide guidance on the implementation of NCCI edits by state Medicaid programs, as required by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
CMS expands coverage of tobacco cessation counseling
On August 25, CMS posted a release announcing expanded Medicare coverage of evidence-based tobacco cessation counseling. The new benefit will cover two individual tobacco cessation counseling attempts per year. Each attempt may include up to four sessions, with a total annual benefit thus covering up to eight sessions per Medicare patient who uses tobacco.
NCHS updates ICD-9-CM Official Guidelines
NCHS has posted updated guidelines for ICD-9-CM, effective October 1.
