CMS posts IRF PPS update for 2011
On July 16, CMS issued a display copy of a notice to update the inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) PPS for rate year 2011, effective October 1.
HHS releases HIPAA-HITECH changes
On July 14, HHS published in the Federal Register a proposed rule to modify HIPAA privacy, security, and enforcement, pursuant to the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH). Among other changes, the rule would extend HIPAA compliance requirements to subcontractors of business associates and strengthen patients’ rights to health information privacy. HHS had previously posted a display copy of the proposed rule.

EHR incentive program final rules posted
On July 13, CMS issued a final rule to define “meaningful use” of EHR technology and HHS issued a final rule to implement certification criteria for EHR technology, pursuant to the EHR incentive program.

CMS publishes MPFS proposed rule
On July 13, CMS published in the Federal Register a notice of proposed rulemaking for the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. The agency had previously posted a display copy of the proposed rule.
