OIG reports $3 billion in fraud and abuse recoveries in Semi-annual Report to Congress

On June 14, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and Department of Health and Human Services released their “Semi-annual Report to Congress” for fiscal year (FY) 2010 reporting more than $3 billion in recoveries from fighting fraud, waste, and abuse.
For the first half of FY 2010, the OIG reports approximately $667 million in audit receivables and $2.5 billion in investigative receivables. The OIG also reports it excluded 1,935 individuals and entities from participating in federal health care programs and brought 293 criminal actions and 164 civil actions during that time.
