CMS posts guidance on cardiac rehab, intensive cardiac rehab
On May 21, CMS issued several transmittals to implement coverage provisions for cardiac rehabilitation programs and intensive cardiac rehabilitation programs. The coverage is required by the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 and pursuant to CMS’ 2010 MPFS rulemaking. The transmittals create new manual language for this benefit.
Effective date: January 1, 2010

CMS issues quarterly HCPCS update
On May 21, CMS issued a transmittal to inform contractors of specific updates to various drug/biological HCPCS codes, including Q2025, Q2026, and Q2027.

CMS clarifies anesthesia interpretive guidelines
On May 21, CMS issued a transmittal to add clarifying language to the State Operations Manual related to the anesthesia services condition of participation.

CMS revises IOM Chapter 25
On May 21, CMS issued a transmittal documenting the revisions to Chapter 25 of the Internet Only Manual to reference external code sources as is currently done in the HIPAA Healthcare Claim: Institutional implementation guide. This update will affect all providers who submit UB-04s to Medicare.

CMS posts I/OCE quarterly update
On May 14, CMS issued a transmittal to implement the July update to the integrated outpatient code editor (I/OCE).
