CMS updates lab NCDs
CMS released the April 2010 Medicare National Coverage Determinations coding policy manual and change report.
CMS implements NCD for positron emission tomography (NaF-18) to identify bone metastasis of cancer
On March 29, CMS issued a transmittal to the National Coverage Determinations Manual to implement positron emission tomography (NaF-18) to identify bone metastasis of cancer.
Effective date: February 26, 2010
Implementation date: July 6, 2010

OIG reports on Medicare overpayments
On March 23, the OIG issued a report on the Wisconsin Physicians Service Insurance Corporation which had not recovered $149,000 in overpayments made to three providers for 1,193 claims that were not eligible for payment because the services were provided on or after the dates that the providers were terminated from the Medicare program.
CMS releases survey memo
CMS released a memo concerning the FDA’s disapproval of the modified SS1 tabletop sterile processing system, which is commonly used in hospitals and other outpatient/ambulatory care settings.
