On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Included in this comprehensive healthcare reform bill are extensions of prior existing provisions, including protections for certain rural and other hospitals that would otherwise have expired. The extension of these prior existing provisions had been delayed during the prolonged national debate over more controversial reform proposals. These extended or reinstated provisions include the following:
