DME owner pleads guilty to one count of Medicaid fraud

A Maryland man pleaded guilty, in the Circuit Court of Baltimore City, to fraudulently billing the Medicare and Medicaid programs for power wheelchairs, according to a Department of Justice press release.

Neil Wayne Goldschmitt, 58, owner of Gold Medical Corporation, a DME company located in Baltimore, received payment for a custom wheelchair designed for a woman with cerebral palsy. Goldschmitt never delivered the wheelchair despite repeated efforts by the woman’s family to obtain it.

Goldschmitt will serve two years in prison, followed by five years supervised probation and 200 hours of community service. He will also pay a restitution fee of $36,000.
