MI medical center owner defrauds Medicaid, goes on shopping spree

Deborah D’Anna, owner of Palmer Park Medical Center (Palmer) in Michigan, faces fines and jail time for allegedly billing Medicaid for over $3.3 million in fraudulent charges from 2007 to 2009, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.
After D’Anna’s two Palmer, MI locations shutdown in 2005, she allegedly continued to bill Medicaid using her formerly employed physician’s Medicaid PIN numbers. According to the DOJ, D’Anna purchased $88,000 worth of items from the television shopping channel QVC.
D’Anna faces four years in prison and/or a fine of $50,000 for each of the 25 counts of Medicaid fraud. She also faces 20 years in prison and/or a $100,000 fine for one count of racketeering.
