In the January 12, 2010 issue of Medicare Weekly Update, we mentioned that CMS had issued a memo summarizing changes in the 2010 Inpatient Prospective Payment System final rule for critical access hospitals (CAH). The IPPS final rule was effective October 1, 2009, and it included two changes that will affect CAHs. This is another example that demonstrates why CAHs also need to review the IPPS and OPPS final rules for issues affecting their operating and reimbursement status.
