Tip: Identifying risk factors through documentation

All healthcare facilities should perform a risk assessment to identify the internal and external factors adversely affecting their business. During your facility’s risk assessment, pin-point areas of concern. Obtain proper documentation to help recognize your organization’s risk areas. Ensure that you and your coworkers focus on the areas of greatest concern and that the documentation will support areas included in the organizational work plan. Use the following documentation to identify areas of risk in your organization:
· Strategic plans
· Organizational charts
· Internal audit reports
· Hotline reports
· External audit reports
· OIG audit reports
· OIG compliance program guidance
