Experts: Expect more enforcement as Office for Civil Rights role expands

HHS’ decision to assign oversight of the HIPAA security rule to OCR will lead to more enforcement, experts tell SHCC. The decision, announced by HHS July 27, transfers security rule oversight from CMS to OCR for the first time since it became effective in 2003. OCR already enforces the HIPAA privacy rule.
