Digital breast tomosynthesis has the potential to reduce recalls

The drop in the number of recalls is likely the result of DBT’s ability to see the breast in 3-D rather than traditional mammography’s more limited two-dimensional view, according to study authors. A 3-D image eliminates the false positives created when tissue is pushed together and overlaps, creating the appearance of a potential cancer.
