Lessons from UCLA lab accident that burned woman

A safety committee at UCLA reinforced this message in July when it recommended additional safety changes following the death of a 23-year-old research assistant at its Molecular Sciences Building in December.

Sheharbano (Sheri) Sangji of Los Angeles was burned over 40% of her body on December 29, 2008, while working with t-butyl lithium, a highly flammable compound that spontaneously burns upon exposure to air, campus administrators said.
