Data from Highmark, one of Washington Physician Hospital Organization’s (WPHO) largest insurers, was showing a growing gap between the number of women recommended for screening mammography and the number who were actually getting examined, says ¬Gina McCullough, a medical management consultant at Highmark. The Pittsburgh-based insurer had already established a strong working relationship with WPHO, and the two organizations wanted to take some steps to boost screening rates for Highmark members.
