Jose Luis Perez, of Golden Beach, FL, and Reinaldo Guerra, of Miami, FL, will face charges of Medicare fraud, according to a Department of Justice release.
According to the release Perez and Guerra owned and operated 21 durable medical equipment (DME) corporations that submitted approximately $179 million in fraudulent claims to Medicare for DME that had never been medically necessary, prescribed, or delivered. Medicare paid the companies approximately $56 million.
In addition to healthcare fraud, the defendants face aggravated identity theft charges for using physicians' Medicare identification numbers without the physicians' authorization.
Guerra was arrested and appeared in court. However, Perez remains at large and is being sought by law enforcement.
