CMS re-issues transmittals on NCDs for surgical never events
On July 2, CMS replaced its previous transmittals on the recently issued NCDs for wrong surgery, wrong site, or wrong patient. CMS corrected several manual references.
Effective date: January 15, 2009
Implementation date: July 6, 2009, for B MACs and carriers; October 5, 2009, for A MACs, FIs, and FISS

CMS implements changes to appeals process
On July 2, CMS issued a transmittal to make changes to the Medicare claims appeal process, in accordance with recent rulemaking.
Effective date: August 3, 2009
