Ask the expert: More RTs than jobs in the current market

For the past several years, most of the talk in the mammography world has been about shortages of workers, including RTs.
In April, MRRR discussed a study published in the February American Journal of Roentology, “Workforce Shortages in Breast Imaging: Impact on Mammography Utilization,” which predicts dramatic reductions in the number of RTs and interpreting physicians for mammography when compared to the number of women older than 40 who will need mammograms. However, it currently looks as though there are more RTs looking for jobs than there are jobs available. Below, our experts talk about some of the reasons for this shift and predictions for the future.
