Genetic testing and counseling are in high demand. However, although many patients would benefit from knowing and understanding their hereditary risks of breast and other cancers, the service is not readily available, particularly for women who live in more rural areas.

Further, few professionals are trained in cancer genetics, and programs can be costly. This means that, typically, patients who don’t live close to metropolitan health facilities are forced to travel hours from home to get the service.
