Florida legislators took a big step towards curbing healthcare abuse this week when the state House of Representatives approved a bill that will make it more difficult to obtain state licensing, according to an April 20 Miami Herald article.
The bill requires any home health agencies, home medical equipment providers, and healthcare clinics looking to obtain initially, renew, or transfer a license to:
- Pay $500,000 to the licensing agency to show the entity is willing to comply with all laws and regulations
- Submit documents that demonstrate financial ability to operate
The bill also put a one-year moratorium on new licenses for counties that already have a high number of home health agencies.
