Researchers, led by Maria Fernandez, PhD, assistant professor of health promotion and behavioral sciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, found that more than 40% of women who received a visit from a lay health educator got a mammogram. Among women who did not receive a visit from a health educator, only 30% got mammograms.
