On April 8, U.S. District Judge Ursula Ungaro sentenced Eduardo Batista Barquin, of Miami, to 63 months in prison and ordered Barquin pay $233,203 restitution for healthcare fraud, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) release.
Barquin previously admitted at trial that he operated a Miami durable medical equipment (DME) company that submitted approximately $3.4 million in false claims to Medicare for reimbursement for the cost of DME items and services. He submitted claims for Medicare reimbursement for services not been prescribed by doctors and were provided as claimed.
