The Florida Senate’s Health Regulation Committee approved a plan that would put stricter restrictions on the state’s home healthcare providers, according to an article published in the Tallahassee Democrat.

According to the article, the plan will:
  • Require all home healthcare services be medically necessary and approved by a physician not affiliated with the agency providing the service
  • Compensate whistleblowers with 25% of the money recovered from cases they initiate
  • Target recruitment of patients, billing for non-existent patients, and orders for unnecessary devices
Durell Peaden (R-Crestview), one of the senators who introduced the bill—along with Don Gaetz (R-Niceville)—is confident his fellow senators will approve the bill. He also said a companion bill is being crafted in the state House of Representatives, according to the article.
